Chopta, often called the 'Mini Switzerland of India', is a stunning Himalayan destination in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Situated at an altitude of 2,680 meters, it serves as the base for treks to Tungnath (the highest Shiva temple in the world) and Chandrashila Peak. The region is known for its lush green meadows, dense forests, and panoramic views of snow-capped peaks including Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba. Chopta remains relatively untouched by commercialization, offering a perfect escape into nature.

The best time to visit Chopta is from April to June (pleasant weather, 10-25°C) and September to November (clear skies for mountain views). Winters (December-March) bring snowfall making the trek challenging but magical. Monsoons (July-August) are best avoided due to landslides.
The trek is moderate in difficulty. The 3.5 km trail to Tungnath gains about 1,000m elevation, with another 1 km steep climb to Chandrashila. The total trek takes 5-7 hours round trip. Beginners can complete it with proper pacing and hydration.
Essential items include trekking shoes, warm layers (temperatures drop at night), rain jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, water bottle, personal medications, torch, and camera. During winter, carry heavy woolens and proper snow gear.
Chopta has limited accommodation options including basic guesthouses and campsites. We provide comfortable camping arrangements with sleeping bags and mattresses. For those preferring hotels, Ukhimath (30km away) has better options.
